Observations and impressions of the new era of Monte Vista Football after a week of 2 a day practices.
A. More kids out for football than in last 10 years( 70 to 80 ). Not as many as the other schools in the MBL schools but enough to
field 3 teams. Coach Reese believes in lots of playing time for all Frosh and JV players. I was told by my daughters that the turnout is because of the
new coach and a statement about the former coach. Players whom the former coach "ran" off, have returned with kids who have never played.
B. Practices were organized, operated smoothly and efficiently. Nothing but fundamentals. No time wasted with trick plays and gadgets.
C. All coaches taught from start to finish. Each coach coached with confidence, skill and maturity. There was no berating, negative coaching.
My overall impression can be sumed up in three words, " Under adult supervision" . I believe the MV parents will be very happy with Coach Reese and
his staff.
Of course there will be a few jerky parents who will want to impose their influence. We'll see who wins this battle when it begins.
I predict Monte Vista will win 3 or 4 games and if the few stay healthy, maybe 5 or 6 games. Not since Jim Work had the Manfrees, Ben Martinez and David Leach
( 1500 yds rushing )
has MV won 6 games.
