I am going to put out my predictions for each bracket:
D1-Salinas vs Homestead in the finals. Salinas winners? D2-I am frustrated that Mitty, Presentation & St. Francis are on the same side of the bracket. Mitty vs Los Gatos? Mitty winners D3-Valley vs Sacred Heart-Valley winners D4-ND-Salinas vs Sacred Heart Prep - Sacred Heart Prep winners D5-Shame that Mt. Madonna & Castilleja are on the same side of bracket play. St. Francis CC vs Mt. Madonna. Mt. Madonna winners? Let the debate begin? |

Well, it looks like I pretty much hit the nail on the head for the first round. At least I was right that we saw an upset over King's Academy, but the
other losses were actually worse than I thought they might be. Somebody please tell me that Carmel beat Mercy. My lap top won't open up the CCS Brackets. I
had to get my info off of MBPs. Who won that last one?

Well by now you know that Carmel did beat Mercy-SF. I'm glad they have tasted victory in the playoffs. Bummer they have to run into Harbor next but
that's the way it goes. Great effort nonetheless. Anybody have a thought on Sacred Heart/Harker? I haven't seen either of these teams this year.
Catalina is going to have their hands full with Menlo, ND Salinas should take Mercy.

I was very happy to see the Carmel victory. Pretty cool that St.Catalina and Carmel both make second round. Yes it is unfortunate that Carmel now has to play Harbor, but somebody does. You might as well go out against the best. I have seen all the top teams. Sacred Heart Prep could upset Harker, though Harker is the 3rd best team in the tournament. When you get to the 1/4s it is a
different world than the first round. Mercy B vs ND Salinas could be a good one, though I give the edge to the scrappiness of ND. Menlo, though the #2 seed may
be the best team in the tournament and I am afraid they will show St.Catalina why they could be. Harbor should put the big hurt on Carmel if they are not
making the mistake of overlooking people in anticipation of their semi-final revenge match against Harker.

Could i have been more right with my picks? Now that i'm done patting myself on the back. OK not yet, i told you Catalina and Carmel would win. the MTAL
is getting better. they are no longer first round fodder teams. Catalina and Carmel are both way overmatched vs Menlo and Harbor, but matches aren't won
on paper. It can happen, but Catalina has a better chance than Carmel. I just can't believe Carmel has no seniors on their team. Is this true? And how
about Monterey, way overmatched and still put up a good fight. And 44 and 7 is right, get your popcorn, soda and seat cushion. You should be at Aptos high
all day if you want to see some good volleyball. picks to come.

VolleyGuy does deserve a pat for predicting Carmel and St.Cat victories. I am curious why you think St.Cat has a better chance than Carmel?Have you seen Menlo?
They are one of 3 teams to beat Harbor this year, the others being Harker and Presentation. Though I am sure hoping Harbor can win the finals this year (lost
to Menlo in 2006 final and Harker (went to state championship)in 2007 semi), Menlo has to be the favorite. One thing people overlook at CCS time is that these
are 3 of 5 set matches as opposed to 2 of 3s that are played at virtually all the other tournaments outside of league play. Beating another team 3 sets is
much harder and things like conditioning and mental toughness are much more in play. Anything but a Menlo vs Harbor final will be upsetting to me, especially
because I am such a public school supporter. I predict that D3-D5 will have 1 public school in the semi finals. Anyway, I hope Santa Catalina and Carmel both
put up a good fight, because I hate watching boring volleyball even if my team is winning. Should be fun.

Harbor got beat by both Menlo and Harker at the second Milpitas tournament. I was told that neither Jan there head coach or Ralph the assistant were present
at the tournament. Harbor Beat Menlo earlier in the year at the Harbor Invitational. And just like you said, a tournament is only 2 out of 3, anything can
happen. Now they are playing 3 out of 5 and I believe the better team will come out on top 90% of the time in a 3 out of 5. What may hurt or help Menlo is
the Tough schedule they have had all season. And it may hurt Harbor to have so few quality oppenents down the stretch.
I just believe that Catalina matches up better with either Menlo or Harbor than Carmel does. Catalina's setter (bolton), is good and she puts it in the perfect spot for their big hitters. They are bigger, more seasoned and healthier. I heard today that Carmel's setter rolled her ankle at Mercy. |

Well, Menlo vs St.Cat match went as expected. I don't think St.Cat scored more than 15 points even after Menlo put subs in. On the other hand a
lackadaisical Harbor team took 4 sets to beat a very game Carmel. Carmel will be good next year. Even though Harbor was missing starting middle (soccer in
Arizona) and starting Libero is out sick, there is no excuse to show the kind of court demeanor they showed in this match. It is CCS after all. As I thought
might happen, Sacred Heart Prep upset Harker, so no Harker rematch for Harbor in Semis. If Harbor plays like they played tonight, SHP will beat them badly.
Notre Dame Salinas got by Mercy, so they are meeting Menlo in Semis, good luck to them. They will need it. |

Now that my team is out of it, I'll offer some predictions:
DI: Salinas over San Benito in 4 - Though SB is coached well, I'll go with Salinas' 2-0 record vs. SB DIV: Menlo over ND-Salinas in 3 - I like Menlo's setter and ball control (along with their big hitters) Harbor over SHP in 4 - I haven't seen SHP play, but I gotta feel that Harbor's talent and coaching exp give them the edge. DV: St. Francis over Castilleja in 3 - St. Francis equals More in experience; More doesn't have the middles to stop Brown; More will face a tougher offese in St. Francis than it did in Anzar. Castilleja over Mt. Madonna in 5 - Castilleja's big hitter possibly too much for Mt. Madonna; Castilleja plays in a tougher league; but Madonna well-coached with good ball control. |

I like your predictions for the most part.
Salinas probably will beat SB tonight but I hope not. I love Dean A the coach of SB and think he has done a good job with what he has this year. Menlo did beat ND Salinas in 3, but a lot closer 3 than most people would have predicted. ND Coach has also made the most of what he has. Harbor obviously must have read my last post about how lazy and uninterested they looked against Carmel. They woke up and if they can stay awake on Saturday, they will be CCS champions. Castilleja is not near as strong as last year, so don't be shocked if Mad Mt. upsets them. No matter, St.Francis will win DV and possibly (with Harbor) make for the first 2 SCCAL CCS same season winners in probably at least 15 years. I think Harbor and Aptos did it in early 90s. Good luck to all remaining MBA teams. |
