It's that time agian....SCCAL Perdictions?? |

Now to me the league seems up in the air for the most part. Santa Cruz will be strong with Santos leading them. St. Francis was and maybe still is the team to
beat but with them losing Welch they still have Brown and a team of un-proven girls, it might be a lot for Brown to take on her sholders. Aptos will be about
the same as last year with Sotomeyer and De Rosa. Scotts Valley could go either way, they have struggeld in the past with youger players trying to lead the
team, It will be up to Sayer and Price to try and make somthing outta this team. Soquel is really down this year, losing Passafumie has left them with out a
leader. For a team that heavily relied on one girl to get things done, it will be hard for Hart or Locatelli to step in and take on that roll. Should be a
intresting year for Soquel thats for sure. SLV with the lose of Gregory its hard to say how they will do, They will have Ambris who can shot the ball and the
return of Clark. Now as for Harbor, I'm not sure what is even going on over there, Last i heard was they have no returing Varsity players.....
Any thoughts??? |

Here is how i see it...
1.Santa Cruz...Always plays hard no matter the roster. Go to players: Tinetti and Santos 2.St. Francis..Was going to be the team to beat but with no Welch its a totally different team. Go to Player: Brown 3.Aptos.. They have inside outside game. Go to Players: Sotomayor and De Rosa 4.Soquel..Its not the soquel of past, going to struggle without a leader. Go to players: Hart and Locatelli...watch out for Dominguez 5.Scotts Valley..Have had problems in the past, could be their year to win some league games. Go to players: Sayer and Price 6.SLV..Going to Struggle without Gregory..Go to players: Ambris and Clark 7.Harbor..Can't even comment on...dont know whats going on |

St Francis positively the team to beat. Unproven girls only in that they have not yet played varsity.
Probably Santa Cruz (always in the mix) Aptos (Sotomeyer lots of fun) Soquel (now we will see how good the coaches are) Scotts Valley (something is wrong out there) SLV (Rachel Gregory too big of a loss) Harbor (Graduated 8 or 9 seniors) |

"St Francis positively the team to beat. Unproven girls only in that they have not yet played varsity." Thats exactly what i ment. I dont care how good the JV team was...The Varsity level is totally different...Unproven "Scotts Valley (something is wrong out there) " sounds like you have a personal vendetta againts scotts valley, why dont you leave the personal stuff out of this and just talk baketball. |

SCCAL Predictions | #5 | ||

44 and 7 has been talking that way about Scotts Valley for years. It's a new year 44-7, let's move on. The league is wide open this year. I
wouldn't count Soquel out. They are well coached and always play hard. St. Francis took a huge hit when Welch left. Any team that loses a 1st team all
league player would feel the impact of that loss. It should be an interesting year and just about any team could come out on top.

OK, I've moved on. Pasafuimi era over at Soquel, and you are right, the league is pretty wide open. It's always fun. Probably the weakest the league
has been in years, but that doesn't matter within the league itself. I still expect to see some pretty good high school hoops.

SCCAL weak? | #7 | ||
|
I don't know if I would call it weak. SC is probably the favorite in D-IV and SFCCC has a legit shot at D-V, depending on how quick the younger players
grow up. Outside of Harbor, there are no gimmes. Easily the top league in mbay from 1 thru 6.

Well, maybe weak is a little strong. Now that Valley Christian is D3, SC is possibly a favorite in D4 . With Stevenson and ND Salinas down this year, I am not
really sure who is any good, maybe Mercy SF? It is a weak division. In D5 I would say St.Francis would not be the favorite unless several of the young players
from Castilleja and especially East Side Prep have transferred to some other school. What I really mean is that the current league leaders are not as strong as
our league leaders of the past.
It will still be fun to watch. |

The SCCAL teams are competing well in the tournaments they are playing in around the Bay Area. Santa Cruz won the Mills Tournament last night and Aptos plays
in the championship game of the Gilroy Tournament tonight. Scotts Valley beat Westmoor, who is always tough in DII, last night in the Notre Dame Belmont
Tournament with Price scoring 36. Soquel is struggling early, but they will be much improved by the time league rolls around. SFCCC lost last night to
Catalina, but Brown and company just finished their volleyball season and are probably not quite in basketball shape yet. It should be an interesting year.

I definitely wouldn't call SF a favorite in D-V, but ESP is looking beatable right now as the squeeked by Terra Nova the other night. I'm not too
familiar with Castilleja's roster, but word on the street is that Pinewood lost one key player to eligibility (transfer) and ESP lost a few to injury and
their effectiveness IF they return this season is questionable.
D-IV is down. I thought Notre Dame would be better than they are performing right now. Other possible road blocks to SC are Sacred Heart Prep, Menlo, Catalina, Mercy. Prep rehired Quattlebaum who coached them to their last state championship. Menlo just hired Paye. Mercy always gets what is leftover in The City. Catalina just beat SFCCC, although I am assuming it was after one light practice with their full squad (6 out of 10 back from VB) SHould be interesting to see how things shape up. |

Leland is aliright, they are undefeated. Both leland and SV beat Alvarez. Leland beat them 63-29. SV beat Alvarez 80-31 without Sayer. So if you ask me SV
should end up getting Leland by 15-25.
