Coaching changes |

Any up-dates on the coaching positions that are still open. There are four that I am aware of PG, Alvarez, Soledad and Monterey. Am I leaving any other school
out? Seems like Soledad is looking for a new coach every year. How about Carmel, is Johnston sticking around?

were all of those coaches on campus?
might be a while if schools are looking to have an on campus coach, because I doubt they know what teaching positions could go with it. Unless there are in house people? |

Rumor: Chris Dahlman may have left the Stanford program to be closer to home. Some saying he's interested in San Jose State, but maybe he will teach and
coach at one of the open programs.

Devine's Blog About Coach J from Carmel | #6
|
As you can read on John Devine's blog, it is official that Craig Johnston is stepping down as Carmel football coach...to spend time with his family now
that he has three sons "on" the Cal Poly football team. Hopefully Carmel will be able to fill the job soon. The choice of Golden Anderson is a
natural.
"The worse kept secret is finally out. Craig Johnston has stepped down as Carmel's football coach after 17 years. Johnston closed a chapter in his career by guiding the Padres to their first league title outright in 45 years with an unbeaten Mission Trail Athletic League season. During his tenure, the Padres set numerous league and school passing records, reaching the playoffs in six of his final seven seasons. Here's taking a leap and saying assistant coach Golden Anderson will be offered the job. While Anderson is the school's athletic director, he is the perfect fit for a program that's expected to be even better than last year."

Reading Devines next insert on his blog the Johnston subject makes one wonder if he lost a power struggle with coach Ables. Remember last year when Ables was
complaining about football taking away from track with there weight training and different methods. With the new rule of no weight lifting in afternoon for
track members who play football it seems some person had more pull than other. As Devine says, just a thought.

Bring in Pat Johnston | #8
|
While Golden may be the natural choice, I would love to see Pat Johnston fill the role as the Padre head football coach. Maybe not this year, but hopefully
with in the next couple of years. With his playing experience and grad assistant experience at Cal Poly, he could step in as a young coach in the MTAL.
I believe that he has a sound mind for the game as well as a strong disdain for Pacific Grove. He was born and raised as a Carmel Padre. I don't think that there is anyone who loves the Red and Grey as much as Pat Johnston. I hope that Pat is considering picking up where his dad left off. This would be a perfect fit for the Padre football program. Don't underscore the importance of the Padre/ Breaker rivalry. If you are a Padre, you want this young man's attitude towards PG leading the way. |

Hey Murph | #9 | ||
|
Hey murph. Good to hear from you. Will you be on the coaching staff at Carmel again this year? Or will work take up too much of your time? I lost your
e-mail address, so figured I'd use this board to get in touch with you.
As for Pat, he is a fine young man and undoubtedly will make a good coach somewhere, But don't forget that like Pat, coaches Anderson, Maheen and Hero are all Carmel High graduates. Plus they have been assistants at Carmel for at least the past five years. No doubt Anderson, Maheen and Hero bleed red and gray just as Pat and the rest of the Johnston family does. And I'll guarantee you that each understands the importance of the Shoe. Anderson is the smart fit for Carmel now...and at his age may be there for many years. Maheen would be a good choice also...but Carmel has that rule that gives current district staff first shot at any coaching position...and Maheen doesn't work for the school district. While other schools in the area (including PG) continue their search for a new head coach, the transition at Carmel should be very smooth and have virtually no impact on the team's future success. By the way, gr dad, I think that as hard as the decision was for Craig Johnston to step down, the truth was that he did what any of us would do. He put family first. With Pat on the sidelines, Phil likely to be on the field and Ken either redshirting or playing, it all boiled down to the chance to be with his kids during the next phase of their football careers. No power struggle with Ables. |

Hi Carmelkyd.
Think you got the wrong Murph. While I would love to help out with the Padre football program, I am out of the area. I think that Golden has a great football mind and will lead this team in the right direction. They should be fairly loaded for the MTAL next year, so we'll see what he can do. I also know that Mike and Devin have been great for the Padre football program and they are proud alums. I don't think that those guys have time to be a head football coach with their other careers. Just saying that at some point in the future I would love to see Pat Johnston take the reigns. Obviously this year, that won't be happening, but I do see him as a natural selection in the future. This is absolutely no knock to Anderson, I think he will have a great team next year and I do think he is a very good coach. |

SeniorPadre:
While I can't comment on coach Ables, I completely agree with you on the lifting. Every athlete can and should be lifting. BTW- the new (as of last year) baseball coach, is a big fan of lifting and instituted a lifting program for the team last year. Hope that it continues. |

CK you are usual right on. I am more of the conspiracy person. Your words good enough for me. SP relax, your team won the title that every school in league
wants. Football is the straw that stirs the drink and we all know it.

Golden or Pat | #14 | ||
|
Murfcv you most definetly know your highschool football better than most. I have to disagree with you though. Although having Pat lead them would be great Golden has been groomed for too many years now as the heir apparent to coach J and he has just as much passion for the Carmel pg game as anyone. If you noticed after the win last year he had tears coming out of his eyes. If thats not passion for the shoe game then I dont know what it is. Mike and Devin and Coach S on the JV are all great for the program and I hope that when my son reaches highschool he will be able to play for all of them. GO PADRES!!!! |

Johnston Offense will be missed | #15
|
I think that the loss of coach Johnston will hurt the Padres program more then Carmel will admit. Before he took over they were not very good and his offensive
mind will be hard to replace. Everyone is saying that Carmel will be better next year. If PG gets a on campus coach and the loss of Johnston offensive system
it might be interesting.

Good News for Padres | #16
|
The good news for the Padres is that Anderson is an offensive minded coach...who completely buys into Craig Johnston's system. And Anderson has had a
LOT of input into the offensive game plans plus he makes many suggestions over the headset throughout the game. Carmel will likely bring Pearson (a sophomore
next year) in as quarterback. He will have an experienced line...a very strong and experienced group of wide receivers...and the possibility of Keyser and
Hopkins in the same backfield. And on the defensive side only two starters graduate. Plus next season six starters on either offense or defense will be third
year varsity starters.

I don't think it's even debatable. Golden is the man for the job. He loves Carmel High, he already has the recipe for success in place, and he is
on-campus. For me it's a no brainer. Pat Johnston probably won't be coaching in the high school ranks for a good amount of years he is on a great
coaching staff at Cal Poly and has created a good nationwide network of 1-A coaches that hope to hire him after his grad work, he has been working his way up
the ranks quite impressively. And his triple-option knowledge is becoming a hot commodity in college football.
I have all the faith in the world in Golden Anderson...he's got my vote. Sorry carmelkyd, I'm going to be bold....2010 MTAL Championship and Shoe Game Victory for the Padres is IN THE BAG!!! I can't wait to see how Pearson performs.

I'll take SeniorPadre's word as the final word on Pat Johnston. He seems to have some solid insight on the Johnston family. However; the triple
option might work next year if Keyser came back. With Pearson and Hopkins, they will have some good speed in the backfield.
I'm excited to see where Golden Anderson takes this team. I've had the opportunity to watch his interactions with his players and the officials during game time. Golden is certainly mature beyond his years. He has a tremendous amount of respect from his players, coaches and the community. The Padre football program is in a very good spot right now. This is a perfect time for Coach J to step away and let Anderson take over. I still wouldn't mind seeing Pat take the job someday. I'm going to agree with SeniorPadre and say that Carmel will dominate in 2009 and 2010. They could be tested by Greenfield or King City, but I doubt it. Unless PG ships in some talent, it will be a long couple of years for them. Get us some playoff wins Coach Anderson! |

He was at least in top 2 and looks like he may have been offered job. Not neccessarily accepted but the HC of Clovis will be announced soon. This would be a
