Welcome Chris Morgan to CCS and MTAL football. PG is a terrific school with great kids and an amazing football tradition. You are going to have fun.
What do we "know" about you so far?
You were an alum of South Tahoe High. You spent nine years as an assistant coach (defensive coordinator) before becoming an interim head coach at STHS in 2002. Ulltimately the job did not go to you and STHS had a couple of other head coaches before coming back and hiring you as head coach in 2007. (Morgan was the head coach at Incline Village between 2003 and 2006.) But back in 2002 your team was one of only a few teams to actually score on De La Salle during their championship year.
You were head coach of the South Tahoe Vikings (they may be in California, but they play in the Northern Sierra Division in Nevada...all the other teams in their league are from Nevada) for the past two years. You took the head coach job to "rebuild a program with a strong football tradition". (Sounds like you will be in a familiar role at PG.)
South Tahoe has 1,365 students so you will have to get used to a smaller campus - PG has 586. But both football squads are about the same size. (South Tahoe had 30 players in 2007 and 25 in 2008.) And you will actually have bigger players on this years PG squad than you did at South Tahoe for the past two years.
South Tahoe's record in 2007 was 1 and 9. You got one more win in 2008 to end up 2 and 8. But don't let the records fool you. South Tahoe lost to Hug in week 2 by a score of 27 - 0. The same Hug team that the week previously beat Salinas 33 - 6. And the Maxpreps models ranked South Tahoe 9,885 in the nation in 2008, while PG was ranked 10,557 so it is clear South Tahoe plays a tough schedule.
Finally, based on Maxpreps stats it looks like South Tahoe likes to throw the ball. For the games with stats in 2007 they gained 3 times more yards through the air than they did on the ground.
So I think you will fit right in. MTAL football is fun. PG is a great community. And you are gonna love their new stadium.
PS - It takes a while to get used to the fog and cold, especially night games in November.
